As mentioned by Craig on latest podcast, I’m hosting a small knifemakers’ weekend in my woods outside Llandovery, Wales, on the weekend of 28/29 September 2019.
On the agenda:
Cooking on the braai
Beer/wine/whiskey
Knife talking and showing
Chopping wood and lighting fires
Carving a spoon if you fancy
Sitting on your own in a tree
Below discussion for more suggestions I reckon.
The woodland is five minutes outside Llandovery, just north of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. It’s 9 acres of largely ancient woodland with some pine too. It’s accessible by road, although the last 10 metres to where we sleep, cook, eat and hang out is on top of a ridge accessible only by foot or proper 4x4.
There is unlimited hammock and tent space, and also a GREAT hotel in Llandovery called the Castle with good food, great beer, and nice rooms.
Fingers crossed we’ll have good weather, but we have built a large covered area around the fire pit which will keep us dry and warm in all conditions (it’s since been extended since below photos.
I’m going to keep it to a small number. And also won’t publicise online where it is, so if you fancy coming DM me your email, and I’ll forward on directions.
It’s a really beautiful part of the world, tucked between the Beacons and the Black Mountains. I’m thinking of making it annual, or more, so don’t worry if you can’t make this one.
I'd love to join you if that's ok...I dabble at smithing and making, haven't taken the full jump yet, but would love to spend some time with you guys...sounds perfect tbh.
Good question! I’m dithering myself on this point. I finish work in Bridgend around 2ish, and will come straight up from there. Either stay in the hotel nearby of head straight to woods. What time were you gonna be arriving?
