    Evening all

Well done and thank you on another superb edition.

You mentioned forced patinas. Do you have any thoughts on “stone washing”? Ferric chloride and then tumbling amongst some pebbles!

Surely it would add some nice protection to a high carbon blade?

If you could discuss on show that’d be awesome.

I have done that in the past but it doesn't work so well for kitchen knives. The tiny micro scratches from store washing are a haven for bacteria and moisture.

    It can look cool though.

    Ah. Didn’t think of that.

What about leaving it a matt finish? I.e. simply treating the steel in ferric chloride and not stone washing? Nice grey fun steel look?

I do that quite often. I dilute the ferric chloride down though (about 25% FC 75% water). Haven’t done it for a while though, hot vinegar gives me better results. Just remember to clean well after - baking power is a good neutraliser.
